Conference on Emerging Foodborne Pathogens
نویسنده
چکیده
equine encephalitis in BALB/c mice: kinetic analysis of central nervous system infection following aerosol or subcutaneous inoculation. A computer assisted molecular epidemiologic approach for confronting the reemergences of tuberculosis. Food and Drug Administration, in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization. The conference will review the lessons learned and knowledge gained concerning the emergence/reemergence and dissemination of food-related microbial threats to health; identify factors that foster emergence/reemergence and dissemination of these hazards; identify scientific and food safety strategies to address emerging foodborne microbial hazards; and identify future research needs. The conference will be of special interest to food protection and public health professionals, including microbiologists , epidemiologists, physicians, and health policy makers; industry, academic, and government researchers; and others interested in microbial food safety hazards.

Infectious diseases transmitted by foods have become a major public health concern in recent years. Response by both the food industry and public health and food safety regulatory agencies to new microbiologic health threats and reemerging pathogens in foods has been primarily reactive. The multiplicity of factors and complex interactions involved in the emergence and reemergence of microbial f...
متن کاملAntimicrobial resistance of emerging foodborne pathogens: status quo and global trends.
Emerging foodborne pathogens are challenging subjects of food microbiology with their antibiotic resistance and their impact on public health. Campylobacter jejuni, Salmonella spp. and Verotoxigenic Escherichia coli (VTEC) are significant emerging food pathogens, globally. The decrease in supply and increase in demand lead developed countries to produce animal products with a higher efficiency....
متن کاملEmerging foodborne diseases.
The epidemiology of foodborne diseases is rapidly changing. Recently described pathogens, such as Escherichia coli O157:H7 and the epidemic strain of Salmonella serotype Typhimurium Definitive Type 104 (which is resistant to at least five antimicrobial drugs), have become important public health problems. Well-recognized pathogens, such as Salmonella serotype Enteritidis, have increased in prev...
متن کاملFoodborne illness: implications for the future.
Many outbreaks of foodborne illness, even those involving newly recognized pathogens, could have been avoided if certain precautions had been taken. This article will draw on existing information to suggest realistic measures that, if implemented, are most likely to avert or diminish the impact of new foodborne disease outbreaks.
متن کاملFood-related illness and death in the United States.
To better quantify the impact of foodborne diseases on health in the United States, we compiled and analyzed information from multiple surveillance systems and other sources. We estimate that foodborne diseases cause approximately 76 million illnesses, 325,000 hospitalizations, and 5,000 deaths in the United States each year. Known pathogens account for an estimated 14 million illnesses, 60, 00...
